Objetivo

Al terminar sabrás comparar personas, animales y cosas en inglés usando comparativos (taller than) y superlativos (the tallest).

Explicación

El comparativo compara dos cosas: *A giraffe is taller than a horse*. Con adjetivos cortos (una sílaba) se añade -er y después than: *tall → taller than*, *fast → faster than*.

El superlativo dice cuál destaca en un grupo: *The giraffe is the tallest animal*. Con adjetivos cortos se añade -est y delante se pone the: *the tallest*, *the fastest*.

Algunos cambios de escritura: si el adjetivo acaba en consonante + y, la y pasa a -ier / -iest (*happy → happier → the happiest*). Si acaba en vocal + consonante, se dobla la consonante (*big → bigger → the biggest*).

Con adjetivos largos (de tres sílabas o más, y muchos de dos) usamos more y the most: *more interesting than*, *the most beautiful*.

Hay adjetivos irregulares que conviene memorizar: *good → better → the best* y *bad → worse → the worst*.

Idea clave: Dos cosas: -er / more + than. Una entre muchas: the + -est / the most.

Ejemplo resuelto: Comparo tres mascotas

  1. Paso 1 Datos: el perro pesa 20 kg, el gato 4 kg y el hámster 100 g.
  2. Paso 2 Comparo dos: el perro pesa más que el gato → *heavy* acaba en consonante + y → *heavier*.
  3. Paso 3 Escribo: *The dog is heavier than the cat.*
  4. Paso 4 Busco el que pesa menos de los tres: *light → the lightest*.
  5. Paso 5 Escribo: *The hamster is the lightest pet.*

Resultado: The dog is heavier than the cat, and the hamster is the lightest pet.
