Objetivo

Aprenderás a nombrar lugares de una localidad en inglés, a describirla con «there is» y «there are» y a decir dónde está cada sitio.

Explicación

Algunos lugares de una localidad son: library (biblioteca), park (parque), hospital (hospital), supermarket (supermercado), bakery (panadería), cinema (cine), swimming pool (piscina), museum (museo), post office (oficina de correos) y train station (estación de tren).

Para decir lo que hay, usamos There is con una sola cosa (There is a park) y There are con varias (There are two schools). En negativo: There isn’t a cinema / There aren’t any museums.

Para preguntar: Is there a library? – Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t. Con plural: Are there any shops? – Yes, there are.

Para decir dónde está algo usamos preposiciones: next to (al lado de), opposite (enfrente de), between (entre), behind (detrás de) e in front of (delante de).

Para preguntar por un lugar decimos: Where is the bakery? Y contestamos: It’s next to the park. Si alguien nos ayuda, decimos Thank you!

Idea clave: There is + una cosa · There are + varias cosas · next to, opposite, between, behind, in front of.

Ejemplo resuelto: Describimos una calle

  1. Paso 1 Vemos un parque: There is a park.
  2. Paso 2 Vemos dos tiendas: There are two shops.
  3. Paso 3 La panadería está al lado del parque: The bakery is next to the park.
  4. Paso 4 El cine está entre las dos tiendas: The cinema is between the two shops.
  5. Paso 5 No hay hospital: There isn’t a hospital.

Resultado: There is a park and there are two shops. The bakery is next to the park.
