Food and quantities: some, any, much, many

Sin empezar
0/10 ejercicios

Objetivo

Al terminar sabrás distinguir nombres contables e incontables de comida y usar some, any, much, many y a lot of para hablar de cantidades.

En pocas palabras (lectura fácil)

Para madres, padres y tutores (1 minuto)

Explicación

Los nombres contables se pueden contar y tienen plural: *an apple, two apples*, *a carrot, three carrots*. Los incontables no se cuentan uno a uno y no tienen plural: *water, milk, bread, rice, cheese, sugar*. No decimos ~~two breads~~, sino *two loaves of bread*.

Para medir los incontables usamos envases y medidas: *a bottle of water*, *a carton of milk*, *a loaf of bread*, *a slice of cheese*, *a kilo of rice*, *a bag of sugar*, *a can of lemonade*.

Some se usa en afirmativas con plurales e incontables: *There are some eggs. There is some milk.* Any se usa en negativas e interrogativas: *There aren't any eggs. Is there any milk?* Para ofrecer o pedir algo con amabilidad se usa *some* en preguntas: *Would you like some tea?*

Para preguntar por la cantidad: How many + contables (*How many oranges?*) y How much + incontables (*How much water?*). En negativas y preguntas, many acompaña a contables y much a incontables: *I haven't got many biscuits / much time*. En afirmativas es más natural a lot of con ambos: *She eats a lot of fruit*.

Idea clave: Contable → many / How many. Incontable → much / How much. Some en afirmativas, any en negativas y preguntas.

Ejemplo resuelto: Completa: «There isn't ___ cheese, but there are ___ tomatoes. How ___ tomatoes are there?»

  1. Paso 1 Primera frase: negativa (isn't) → any. Cheese es incontable, pero any sirve para ambos.
  2. Paso 2 Segunda frase: afirmativa (are) → some.
  3. Paso 3 Tomatoes es contable y plural → How many.

Resultado: There isn't any cheese, but there are some tomatoes. How many tomatoes are there?

Resumen

  • Contables: tienen singular y plural. Incontables: no tienen plural.
  • Los incontables se miden con envases o medidas (a bottle of, a slice of...).
  • Some en afirmativas y ofrecimientos; any en negativas y preguntas.
  • How many / many con contables; How much / much con incontables.
  • A lot of sirve para ambos, sobre todo en afirmativas.
